簡介：Netflix四集紀錄片，五個來自印度最低種性的女孩，在一家為她們提供14年免費教育（2年學前 12）的住宿學校的成長過程。 算了一下，斷斷續續拍了八九年，有的從學前班跟拍到初中，有的從初中跟拍到進入社會工作。這所叫做Shanti Bhavan 的學校，創辦人是一個美籍印度商人，在49歲的時候，也就是1997年，決定回到印度，為當地最窮的家庭建一所學校。這些有機會獲得免費教育的孩子，有一個責任，那就是找到工作后，必須幫助自己的家庭和社區，而不是一走了之。 這些孩子的成長是充滿了矛盾的，不斷在安全穩定的學校和貧困的家庭環境中轉換，在現代價值和印度傳統價值中掙扎，從而塑造一個獨立的自我。雖然是免費教育，對于這些家庭來說，要相信自己的孩子，在14年，甚至17年（加上3年大學，也是由這所學校支付學費）后可以幫助改善家庭，也是一個漫長的投資。雖然印度很窮，充滿不平等，還有各種讓人覺得匪夷所思的風俗，（比如其中一個女孩，她的祖母一直等著她長大嫁給她的兒子，也就是女孩的叔叔。因為有了接受教育的機會，女兒拒絕了祖母的要求，現在她已經成為一名記者，出了一本書），但在印度，民間可以專心辦一所這樣的學校，除了經費，不用擔心其它，可以讓這些孩子的教育過程不被中斷。這所學校是混合教育，之所以紀錄片把鏡頭對準女孩，是因為她們除了種姓，還要面對性別帶來的不公平。
