簡介：本片講述遠在1887年美國與印第安人簽訂和約，答應援助正受到各種如天災、疾病、糧食短缺等問題的印第安人，駐扎在奧克拉荷馬保留區。但美國政府忽略了這項協約，于是夏安族的酋長決定，返回原來的擁有比較豐盛農產的居住地。這樣一來，就破壞了協議，引起了軍隊和夏安族的沖突，使美國內部陷入動蕩與不安中。美國人與印第安人的摩擦日益增多，這時幸好有一位軍官請內政部長隨行化解沖突，把印第安人原居住地也劃為保留區，美國與印第安人之間終于和平起來。此片是由名導演約翰．福特所拍攝的史詩型影片，在導演細膩的描寫下，人性的尊嚴充分表達出來，并以寫實手法充分詮釋了當時的歷史背景。
